Snapshots: Rihanna stars on 7-cover Complex special | SoulCulture

Pop’s favourite bad girl Rihanna is continuing to push boundaries and venture into new ground as she appears in a risqué, 7-cover special for Complex magazine in honour of her seventh studio album Unapologetic.

In the ‘full exposure’ cover shoot, the less-than-shy singer shows off her toned figure in a number of revealing and fashionable outfit choices to represent every aspect of her personality and style.

As well as the seven covers, Rihanna also takes part in a typically fresh Complex editorial photoshoot, and also works her own camera skills as she captures a number of polaroid images of herself to include in the shoot, giving it a more personal touch.

Any follower of her Twitter or Instagram will come to know that Riri’s a bit of an addict in the pic department, and here she shares tips with her fans on how to look as hot as her in a pic. “Get a good light,” she says. “Get a good angle on what’s working for you that day. If it’s boobs, make sure you hit that. If it’s face, make sure it’s fierce.

“It’s narcissistic, but whatever — everyone does it. I’m capturing personality… Everybody has their thing they like or don’t like to see. It’s all in your head. That’s why people take their own pictures, because it’s difficult for someone else to capture what you seek.”

Bringing it back to the music, Rihanna discusses her already successful seventh album Unapologetic – the first of her albums to reach the number one spot in the Billboard charts.

“When I was making this record I had no intention except the truth. So whatever is there is real. It’s raw. That’s why the album is called Unapologetic,” she explains. “I held back before. I didn’t show a lot of myself. I was very guarded. I needed to be open and free and fearless. Basically say, ‘Fuck it.’ What’s the worst that can happen? They’ll hate me? They’ve done that before.”

However, when it came to talking about her controversial duet with Chris Brown on “Nobody’s Business” she seemed less open to talking. Her manager and co-founder of Roc Nation steps in, TyTy steps in insisting that although Brown wasn’t in mind when the song was written, her management team – including Jay-Z – all felt that it made sense.

“We don’t focus on the media, so it was never a question,” he says. “It’s all about the music. Everything else doesn’t even play a part in the studio. The-Dream didn’t write it for them as a duet. Jay-Z and I were in the car together listening to the song, and we thought it would be a great duet. It sounds dope. It feels good. That’s how Chris ended up on the song.”
