Pop powerhouse, Rihanna is going to be honored with the first ever ‘Icon’ award at the 2013 American Music Awards. The 25-year old Bajan bombshell, who has been traveling the world for her Diamonds tour, is also set to rock the stage, the Los Angeles Times reports.
“The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level,” show producer Larry Klein said. “Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time.”
Rihanna has put numbers on the board with seven albums in the past years, recently snagging the top spot with her seventh studio effort Unapologetic and embarking on a special 777 tour, where she touched down in 7 countries to perform 7 shows in 7 days. Twelve of her singers have also clocked in at no. 1, selling 50 million albums and 180 million singles worldwide as the highest-selling digital artist of all time.
