Australia's minister for women urges country to ban Chris Brown

Australia's minister for women Michaelia Cash has hinted that US singer Chris Brown may not be allowed into the country for his upcoming tour dates.Women's rights group GetUp recently set up a petition calling for Brown to be denied a visa ahead of planned live gigs. The petition said that failure to ban Brown would "send the message that if you brutally beat a woman, in a short amount of time you will be forgiven, or even celebrated".Brown pleaded guilty to assault charges in 2009 after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna.Cash, who was appointed as the minister for women this week, said that she would push for Brown to be investigated before he is allowed into the country by immigration minister Peter Dutton."I can assure you that the minister for immigration and border protection will be looking at this very, very seriously," Cash said, according to The Guardian. She added, "I am clearly not going to pre-empt a decision by the minister, however, I can assure you what my strong recommendation would be."Whoever is doing this to the Chris Brown posters in Melbourne is a champion! However, he scrapped the shows following a campaign by feminist group Collective Shout urging the Australian government not to grant the artist a working visa. The rapper has been accused of homophobia and sexism in the past. Tyler was previously involved in a dispute with the group in 2013 who tried to get him banned from the country on account of what they deemed to be inappropriate content in his lyrics. The rapper made it into the country and called a member of the group a "fucking bitch", a "fucking whore", and a "fucking cunt" while on stage in Sydney.
